You already have a Facebook Page right? If not, click here to learn how to create one, then come back here!

Once you have your page, it’s great to start building your list of fans, connecting and communicating with your current and future clients. However, it’s also good to make connections with other business owners and to help promote each other. Did you know you can link from your Facebook Page to another Facebook Page? It’s pretty quick and simple.

Log into Facebook with the account you use to moderate your page. Next, navigate to the page you want to link to. Here, we want to link to a local real estate agent, Rodney Camren of Star Team Atlanta Realty.  He is a great business contact of mine, a fantastic networker and has been a great advocate for Purple Star Consulting, so I want to share the love!

From the top left of the page, underneath the logo, you will see a link for “Add to my page’s favorites”. Click this link.

If you are an Administrator for more than one page, you will be asked which one you want to add the favorite to.  Select and then click Save.

Once you have completed these simple steps, you will see the page listed at the bottom left of your own page. You can promote and endorse other businesses by completing these steps.

That’s it! Pretty simple right?

So, you have created your own Facebook Fan Page and you have people taking a look and hoping to find out more about your business. Give them something to read when the land on your page. Although the wall can be full of great information you have been posting, it could also be full of comments and posts from your fans that you don’t have as much control over. Send them to the info tab instead!

You have four main sections on the info tab. The websites section can hold more than just one url. Put one on each line and add links for Twitter, LinkedIn, Kudzu and anywhere else  you would like people to visit. Use the Company Overview, Mission and Products section to add more information and let people know about who you are as a company.

Not sure how to do this? Log into your account and go to your page. Click on the Edit Page link that shows up underneath your page image. From the next page, click on Edit from the Wall settings. From here you can determine default landing page. You can also determine the default view for the wall and which posts will show (only your Page posts, Just Fans, or both Fans and Page posts).

Feel free to share a link to your Facebook Page below. How do you have your Facebook Page set up to encourage peiople to become a fan?

We recently posted about how to create a Facebook Fan Page. Well, while we are on a roll, let’s go ahead and show you how to create your own Fan Box for your website. First of all, log into your facebook account and go to your Facebook Page. Click on the Edit Page link at the top of your page.

This will take you to a page full of all of your FB Page settings. Scroll down and look on the right hand side for the following section. Click on Promote with a Fan Box.

You will see a preview of how your Fan Box will look, depending on the different settings you choose.

For my fan box, I like to include the stream of comments and wall postings. This allows people to see the sort of things you are talking about, the ability to see if it’s worth becoming your fan I suppose! You can also include your fans, and the facebook logo. Finally, select where you want to put your fan box. For your own website, click on Other. The code will be listed below that. Copy the code.

Here is what you can do with the code:

  • Send the code to your web designer and tell them where you would like it on your website.
  • If you have access to your own pages and are comfortable modifying the code, paste it in directly where you would like to see the Facebook Fan Box
  • If you have WordPress, simply log in, go to Appearance on the left navigation, click on Widgets, and use a Text Widget and simply paste the code in there.

So, you have your own business, you have a website, maybe even a Twitter page. What about a Facebook Fan Page? This post will walk you through how to create your own.

So what do I need a Fan Page for?

Well, good question! Fan Pages allow you to interact with clients and potential clients online. Unlike your Facebook Profile, you don’t have to be friends with a fan to interact with them. They can become a fan of your page, and if you allow it, they can post things on your Fan Page wall. This allows you to have conversations and be “social through media”. You can also track statistics of your interactions and the demographics of your fans. Use your page to post articles, videos and comments relevant to your business. Keep your Profile for your ramblings, political opinions and anything else that isn’t necessarily promoting your business.

How do I create a page?

First things first, click on the following link: http://www.facebook.com/advertising/?src=pf . This will take you to the following page. Simply click on the Pages link, then click on the green Create a Page button that show up.

Next you will have to fill out a series of fields about the Page you wish to create. You can select the category for your business, then type in the name for your page. Try to stick to your Businesses legal name, or the name you use on your website for consistent branding. Enter the Captcha security words and then click on Create Page at the bottom:

Next, if you already have a Faceook Profile account, you can use that to log in with. If you do not have a Facebook account, you will need to create one in order to create the Page. This is required by Facebook.

Next you are taken to your Page. The first thing I would suggest doing is uploading an image for the Profile picture of your new Page. From the current image of the big question mark, hover your mouse and then click to Edit the picture. Click on Upload a picture and then browse out for your company logo, or a picture that makes sense for your page.

Once you have your picture uploaded, you now need to go through and edit the rest of your page! Click in the Write something about “your fan page name” section and put in a little bit about your business. Next, click on the Info tab next to the Wall tab and add a little more information. When you are adding your website address, be sure to include your Twitter page and any other sites you want to link to.

When you are done editing your page, click on Suggest to friends! Spread the word so that people start to become a fan. Your first goal is to reach 25 fans. Why? Because until you do, you cannot create a unique url for your fan page, and this makes it so much easier for people to find you.

Finally, sorry for teasing you all, but My Dog Oscar isn’t really a Fan Page, I just created it for the screen shots :( Sorry to disappoint, but isn’t he cute? To make it up to you, I will let you post a link to your own Fan Pages in the comments below! Go for it!

Let’s face it, many of us are addicted to Facebook!

You use your phone to update your status, you are checking it while you are work and any where you can! One of the great features with Facebook is the online chat. However, how often have you been sitting in your cubicle or been somewhere where perhaps you shouldn’t have been online? If someone pops up to chat you might not have time to chat, or you could be friends with fellow co-workers, or even your boss! Might be better if they didn’t know you were spending your time online right?

Well, in Facebook you can use a list to control who sees you are online. In the following screenshots I have tried to make the names unrecognizable, to protect the innocent!! :)

From the chat on the bottom right of Facebook, click on it to open it. Click on Friends Lists. Simply type in a name for your new list. In this case I am creating one to put in people that I work with that I don’t always want to know I am online.

Once you have added your list, you will now see it at the top of the Chat section. You can drag any of the Friends that are currently listed in the chat section and pull them into the new Work list created.

Alternatively, when you hover your mouse over the list name in the chat box, the word edit will appear. Click on this and you will see the following window appear. From here you can select all of the people who you wish to add to this list.

Finally, once you are finished adding friends to the list, you can then select if you wish to Go offline to a certain list. Simply click on the online icon (the green icon) next to the name of your list. Now all of the people in that list will not see you online!
